PIANO COMPETITION

“I give them one point for every right note
I’m taking one point off for every wrong note
and whoever plays the utmost fastest pace
will win this global piano race!”

Piano Competition is an opera about how classical music became a sport, monitored by a system of competitions and applications. While new music is rarely accepted to the standard repertoire, artistry is measured by perfecting the same pieces again and again, ever so far away from the composers' original intents. How can you judge a performance of a piece that is performed out of context? Count all the mistakes? Or aspire to judge musically, giving in to total subjectivity? How far is subjectivity from corruption? The head of the jury summons a young jury member to her office to "manage expectations" towards the upcoming competition. little by little their true intents reveal. I assure you, its about to get ugly. No uglier than the truth.

This opera is still being developed. The presented video is a concert version of the opening sequence. Later on, this piece will be fully staged and last 45-60 minutes. The Clocksmith

The Clocksmith, a musical play in Hebrew, written and composed by Tomer Rozen, is a musical parody exploring various aspects within the scene of classical music making today. It tells the unrequited love story of the Artist and the Muse. They used to complete each other: knowledge and inspiration, intelligence and expressiveness, Yin and Yang, ever circling each other, sculpting time, creating great music. This old clock however, is now broken. Where is the Clocksmith who could fix it?

The play aired twice in the Tel Aviv Music Academy in the summer of 2022
